Steampunk Journal

I'm working on a collabrative Steam Punk Journal. These pages are my front cover, back of cover, and sign in page. The journal has been sent to the next artist and she will add a page and then send it onto the next. I believe it will be approx 5-6 months before I see it again, but when it comes back home, I'll have some great art from fabulous artists! I'll also be working in their journals.
Postcard Mania

I've really enjoyed making postcards lately - and then sending them out into the world "naked"... In otherwords, the art is actually sent as a postcard, so that the post office will alter them one more time. No hiding in an envie for these guys!
If you would like a post card from me, please send me an email! Give me a choice of 3 themes and I'll make you one! :) corrie_manning @ yahoo.com (take out the spaces of course!)

Art Doll - Heart Throb Billy

In June, I had the privilege of traveling to Indy for a weekend art retreat with almost 50 other art friends from the atcsforall.com website. WHAT A BLAST!!
While there, I met Nancy (aka "Nutty Nanner"... "Nanner" for short.) Nanner is currently obsessed with art dolls and we decided to trade. This is the art doll that I made for her. "Heart Throb Billy"

Cat Tip In Pages

What are tip in pages???
"Tip In's" are individual pages that are created with the sole purpose of being added to an existing journal or altered book. It can be stapled, sewn, taped, hole punched and laced, etc. Think of it as loose leaf notebook paper being added to a 3-ring binder - that's a tip in.
This page was created for another artist's altered book. She asked me if she could she print out some of my cat art and add them to her altered book. Instead of that, I told her that I would make her an original page.

Japanese Moleskine Journal
My four page, vertical spread in Curbsidetreasure's Japanese moleskine journal. Her theme was about fairytales. I decided on simplicity and I really like the result. The first picture shows the entire finished project. The last 2 are close ups.

ATC's
These will probably be the last of the ATC's for a bit. I'm burnt out on them and am more interested in art journaling and post cards... or anything larger than 2.5" x 3.5"...

Just updatin'...
A couple of weekends ago, my husband was my hero and painted my art studio. In the morning it was the ugly olive green and by 1 am (14 hours later), it was the beautiful blue with the white stripe. I plan on adding my art in the stripe. Just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Spirituality Journal

My friend on Atcsforall.com asked several of us to do an entry, in her journal, about spirituality... without being "preachy."...
My entry was based on the blessings that God has granted me, with this main thought...
"Although, I have wandered off the path so many times, God always welcomes me back with loving, open arms and He continues to bless me."

Whimsical Cat Chunky Book

Cat #20 - The last one that I had to make for the swap. I'd say that I'm sick of making cats, but I'd be lying. I love 'em!!

Whimsical Cat Chunky Book
On the ATCSforall.com website, there is a "Whimsical Cat" chunky book swap in progress. For this swap, I have to make 20 cat pages and then I'll send them to the hostess. The hostess will then send me back 20 different cat pages from 20 different artists.
The cat pages that you see here are MY pages that I submitted... and I have to say... I DON'T WANT TO GIVE THEM UP!!!!! I totally LOVE THEM!

Painting I made for my parent's (early) Christmas present
The figures represent my mom, sister, and myself. My sister and I both have cats, so I added (some) of them at the bottom.
My sister is an organic farmer and a bee keeper, so I added the flower and the bee.
I love art, so I have the paint brush.
My cat, Misty is holding a sign that says "Let Me Out!" because she always wants to go outside.
My parents loved the painting and were VERY surprised! I like how it turned out, although my curly hair turned out looking white-ish silver in most of the pictures. It had a brownish red undertone (as seen in one of the photos) and then a metallic champagne color that is making it look so white.

Funky Rooster

This funky rooster has personality and he's not afraid to show it.
12x18 painting that I created for my sister. (So I was pleased when she wanted it, after she saw a picture of it. She didn't know that I had made it for her.)

Pickling Crock
As most of you know, I've been taking pottery classes since May. (And my wheel skills are quite horrendous! But I like it too much to give up and I just don't have enough practice time! I have to say that I have made some jewelry by hand and I've already had requests to sell that. So I'm not a total dud at the clay!)
Anyways, my sister requested that I make her a pickling crock. (I had no idea what a pickling crock even was before she asked!) Well, after 6 weeks... here are the final results. (And the teacher helped A TON on this project! I did the glazing by myself though!!)

OH, and this week... I hand built a Fall theme wall hanging. I can't wait to show that off because it's going to be A-w-e-s-o-m-e!!!! It will be for sale, but it still has to go through all of the firing and glazing processes first.

My first commissioned piece!!
Karen asked me to create an 18x36 art piece for her living room. She picked out the colors and had the metal words that she wanted to add. So here is the result!!
Thanks Karen, for being my first "non-family" client! I hope you enjoy it.
( I had some pics of it hanging on her wall, but I can't find them, right now.)

Background Mania

I recently purchased a book that inspired and instructed the reader to make background pages using a timer so that each step was VERY fast paced and totally spontaneous!
Each of the backgrounds were created on 4x6 watercolor post cards with the intention of using them as journal cards or regular post cards. However ,I ended up using them for my ATC's and magnet inchies.
I did save this one though. I like it so much that I displayed it on my cork board.

Zetti Cow - Chunky Book PIF
This is one of my new favorites. A lady in the atcsforall.com website had requested that someone make her a chunky book page and requested 3 different themes. One of the requests was a Zetti Cow.
Now, most of my friends and family don't have a clue what "zetti" is. Zetti is basically making the "usual/expected" into the unusual and unexpected. It almost always incorporates stripes and you'll also see hats, wings, crowns, etc.
The title of this piece is "Salad, please. ~ How Lucy stays away from the butcher shop."

I HIGHLY suggest you check out her site for some amazing zettified eye candy. (Just don't forget to come back here! I have more things to post! :))

It's Clear to See - Transparency Swap

In this atcsforall.com swap, we were challenged to use transparencies in the creation of our ATC's. Adding the transparency adds an intriguing dimension that offered a ghostly presence in my cards. This is something that I'll definitely have to play around with more.

In the style of Picasso

For this ATC swap, we had to hand draw a Picasso painting/drawing or create our own Picasso "style" drawings.
Here are my attempts and I have also included a picture of Picasso's actual painting that I tried to copy.

Nursery Rhymes with a Twist

In a PIF (Play it forward) group, I accepted my friend Rachel's challenge to create a chunky book page about Humpy Dumpty.
The theme of this group was Naughty/Nasty Nursery Rhymes, so of course, I had to be a bit twisted with this page.
I have this great product called Mica acrylic medium. The mica flakes look like crushed egg shells, so the white flecks you see is Humpy's egg shell "splattered" all over the sidewalk and wall.
I also used Diamond Glaze (a glue substance that dries in a 3-d glass like surface) for the egg yolk and whites.
Fun stuff! I can't wait to give it to Rachel.

4th of July - Flea Market Finds
My art friend Rachel, Thomas and I went to the Hartville Flea Market and spent 4+ hours roaming around looking for treasure. Rachel and I found it! For $15 (we each paid $7.50) we bought a box of old documents and envelopes. The box contained handwritten documents, survey maps, and envelopes from the early 1800's and 1900's. We also got a TON of stamps from various eras and locations. Here's a SAMPLING of our treasures. (We can't bring ourselves to actually use the originals in our art, so we're going to print out the scans, instead!)

Woman In Love

This page is in my "emotional" journal. A safe place to express my soul. The original background was quite ugly. (I normally prep / paint my backgrounds and then journal later when the mood strikes. I guess I was expecting an "ugly" emotion to be journaled on the page.) I decided to rework the background with soothing blues, purples, hand-writing, and an image transfer of an old book page. I drew a quick "scratchy" sketch of the woman on some newsprint paper and added some found poetry. (Found poetry is taking random words from an old book or magazine pages and recreating new thoughts/poetry.) I then added additional collage elements to give the page a more cohesive look.

Fluer De Lis

I introduced my friend Rachel to the ATCs For All website (http://www.atcsforall.com/) and she joined her very first ATC swap. To help her on her journey, I joined too.
For this swap, we had to create 3 - 3x5 x 2.5 cards that featured Fluer De Lis. We could use any medium, but all three cards had to be different. I drew the blue Fluer De Lis and cut it out. I then was able to use it as the "stencil" for the other 2 cards.

I can't believe that I just created a blog site. I swore to myself that I wouldn't take the time to do this because it would take even more time away from my art. So why am I doing this? Simply because I'm not satisfied with showing my art on a regular photo sharing site. I want to be able to tag my art work and offer more insight on each piece.
So, the journey begins...
